Booties

Untitled Document

A good pair of booties can provide 3 very important things while stand up paddle boarding - traction, warmth, and protection.  All of these threee things are tough to do barefoot!

Traction: most SUP boards will have a traction pad (deck pad) on them that provides ample traction.  Booties will add extra traction plus give extra stability and support.  This is important on those long distance SUP days where your feet fatigue from balancing the grunt of your body weight.

Warmth: Cold feet equals an uncomfortable paddle.  If your feet are cold it will be difficult to get into a good paddle cadence.  You will want to move your feet around to get the blood flowing which will throw you balance off and effect your paddle stroke.

Protection: Booties will protect you from the sun’s rays keeping your feet free from that horrible foot sun burn.  A hard traction pad can do a number on the bottom of your feet and booties will add that extra padding of protection.  Watch out for those sharp shells or rocks at the water’s edge.  It’s tough to see any submerged objects in ankle deep water before jumping on the board. Without bootie protection a cut can end a day of paddling by a simple miss step.
